Pavers Ltd, a York based company was founded in 1971 by Stuart’s mother Catherine Paver, and is a retailer of branded and own brand footwear in the UK and Ireland, Pavers are a true multi channel retailer with stores, catalogues, web sites and its own 24 hour dedicated TV channel.
After leaving school he joined the family footwear business. Pavers subsequently opened a number of high street stores and factory outlets. In 1998 Stuart began to explore the commercial possibilities created by the internet which led him to launch shoe-shop.com, an independent company which became the largest footwear site in Europe.
In 2006 Stuart developed a strong relationship with the Belle group who had grown from a small factory in 1990 to having 12,000 stores and huge growth plans based solely on increasing domestic demand in China’s emerging economy. This experience encouraged Stuart to launch Pavers into India as a joint venture which has a factory and 200 outlets selling Pavers England product. He aims to list this Indian joint venture company in Delhi within 5 years.
Stuart and the team at Pavers have won many awards including the prestigious Ernst & Young Business to Consumer Entrepreneur of The Year, best company in Yorkshire under £100m turnover and Pavers was recently noted as one of the UK’s top 1,000 performing companies through the recession. These awards are a reflection of the business’ family values, superb senior management team, whose combined strong focus on product, service and cost control have ensured Pavers are continue to grow and strengthen even in these difficult times.
