The Maternity Act 2017
The Maternity Act 2017 (Amendment) received the President’s agreement on the 27 March 2017, and is now in force with effect from 1 April 2017.
The key changes under the Amendment include increasing the maternity leave from 12 to 26 weeks subject to certain conditions, introducing adoption and surrogacy leave, option to work from home, provision of crèche facilities by establishments with 50 or more employees, and obligation of the employers to notify women employees of such benefits at the time of their appointment.
The purpose of this recording will be to discuss these changes in detail, practices prevalent in the industry, challenges that could arise from an implementation perspective and potential solutions.
